Latino Role Model / winner of our Leadership Award

The Latino Role Model and winner of our Leadership Award is Francesca Peña

Francesca graduated from the School of Engineering at the City College of New York in 1985. She worked in private industry for several years before discovering her true calling: education. With that in mind, she went back to school in 1992 and earned an M.S. in Mathematics from City College of New York and then became a teacher of Mathematics at Washington Irving High School in Manhattan. Realizing that she wanted to empower an even larger number of students, Francesca opted to further her education and obtained an M.A. in Administration and Supervision from Baruch College. In 1999 Francesca Peña was asked to join the re-design team that would eventually restructure her old alma mater, George Washington High School.
